Oh my God, what if you wake up someday and you’re 65 or 75, and you never got your memoir or novel written; or you didn’t go swimming in warm pools and oceans all those years because your thighs were jiggly and you had a nice big comfortable tummy; or you were just so strung out on perfectionism and people-pleasing that you forgot to have a big juicy creative life, of imagination and radical silliness and staring off into space like when you were a kid? It’s going to break your heart. Don’t let this happen. - Anne Lamott
What I’m reading…
The Cliffs by J. Courtney Sullivan (beach read + ghosts)
Sandwich by Catherine Newman (beach read + food and family) * LOVED THIS!
Swan Song by Elin Hilderbrand (beach read + a little mystery)
Can you sense a theme here? Sorry not sorry! I’m doing a deep dive on fun, summer reads and loving every minute of it. Up next: Hot Milk by Deborah Levy.
I also bought Jung’s Map of the Soul by Murray Stein which I really want to read but it’s giving back-to-school vibes and I’m 100% not ready for that feeling. Ditto: The Quiet Zone by Stephen Kurczy and Hard by a Great Forest by Leo Vardiashvili.
For the creatives and entrepreneurs among you - I also read and found useful: Dear Writer, Are you Intuitive? by Becca Syme and Susan Bischoff and How to Get on Podcasts by Michelle Glogovac.
What I’m eating…
… besides cheese.
These fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce might be the best thing I’ve had all summer. Use whatever veggies you have and whatever protein you prefer. The peanut sauce is EVERYTHING.
This sugar snap pea salad - Sadly, sugar snap peas do not exist in the Haute-Savoie so I had to substitute with edamames and some nuts for crunch. It’s still good - but it would be so much better with the crunchy sweetness of sugar snap peas.
It wouldn’t be summer in France without a fruit tart for dessert! The kids are partial to the strawberry, but blueberry is my favourite. (I have no recipe to offer you… I buy all our tarts from the local boulangerie whenever I go in for bread.)
What I’m listening to…
This fun playlist that Sophia made for Dan’s 50th Birthday Party! :)
Anne Lamott’s advice is perfect and timely, as 65 feels like it’s just around the corner!
Currently reading Sandwich, will have to check out the others!
Happy summer!
You are insanely inspiring!!
